Commencement and Graduation

Spring 2020 Commencement Update

Posted Friday, March 20, 2020
Updated Monday, March 23, 2020

May Commencement will take place as a virtual ceremony, with the option for Spring 2020 graduates to join Fall 2020 Commencement in December.

To celebrate the milestone and achievements of the Spring 2020 graduating class at the traditional time, a virtual commencement ceremony will be held in May. Timelines for when large gatherings will be “the norm” again vary, and it is difficult to predict whether an in-person commencement will be able to occur later in summer or in August. We are keenly aware of the advance notice our graduates and their families and friends need to plan, and we simply do not know when we might receive guidance that such an event can occur.

While we will continue to monitor with a later date in mind, in addition to a virtual ceremony in May, we also invite Spring 2020 graduates to walk at Fall 2020 Commencement in December. The December option, with its later date, is made available as a concrete commitment we can make to our graduates and their families and friends.

Our Commencement planning team is a caring and dedicated group who will do everything feasible to provide the best Commencement experiences we possibly can for our graduates, and they will involve students in the planning moving forward. Additional details will be coming soon.

COVID-19 Commencement Update

We recognize the significance of celebrating the accomplishments of our students. Commencement ceremonies are the pinnacle of our students’ academic achievements. We are hopeful we can continue commencement ceremonies as planned, but in the event we must adjust these plans we will communicate any changes as soon as possible. View the latest information on the App State Coronavirus Information website
